It's been such a long time since we've updated the blog, but me oh my, have we been busy bees? In May we were invited to create a series of creative and cultural art pieces for Dublin Metropolitan CARO (Climate Action Regional Office) We'll tell you more about the wider work in our next blog, but the running theme for the events was Bees, Pollinators, & Flowers. Today, we'll tell you all about our community collaborative crochet project 'Hooked on the Hive'. So what's the buzz? If you know us, you know we love creating interactive art pieces, and we love making, minding, mending, and skill sharing. For ths project we roped in two of our fav Green Roots Ambassadors. Shelly, & Deimante. If you've been to our Climate Change Cabaret, you've either seen Shelly and her amazing Laser Harp, or you've seen her gorgeous costume work on the stage. Shelly spearheads a community endeavour called Emerald Thread Collective. Deimante has been with TGRP since our first ideation sessions at UCD's Innovation Academy, she is a driving force promoting the arts and artists in Carlow. You may have met her at any number of events she has run through Made in Carlow, or spotted her behind the scenes at Carlow Fringe Festival. On top of all this talent, Shelly and Deimante both love to crochet... and we know they're not alone. Crochet is experiencing a revival, as a comforting home craft and as a tool for craftivism. Through out Climate Action Week our gals hosted a series of workshops where they invited folks to crochet a hexagon, teaching the skills where needed, to contribute to a growing blanket that we hope will one day cover Phoenix Park You can find 'Hooked on the Hive' at Dublin Maker on August 30th at Leopardstown Race Course.
